A munch is an organised meeting, usually in a pub or similar venue, where a group of people with the same fetish (the term munch is used generally in BDSM, and to some extent in other communities) get together for a chat.

The chat can be on anything, and have been known to range from what things people have to do for the home economics class when they were at school to in depth talks on needle play [link to other fetishes?].

Many things have started at munches: lasting friendships, long term play partners, ideas for new events and techniques, and more. A munch is essentially a stepping stone to meeting (and playing) in real life, as well as an opportunity to meet those people you’ve been talking to for ages online and to meet new people in a face-to-face situation.

Munches tend to be non-fetish in the nature of the venue, so there is no need to dress up. In fact most if not all munches are held in venues that would frown on many fetish-y outfits. This doesn’t mean to say you can’t come in alternative clothes (I’ve seen corsets and men in eyeliner at BDSM munches before), just that turning up in chains would be pushing the sensibilities of the fragile customers and serving staff.

Some munches take place in a public place (i.e., a pub but not in a private room) and others take place where no one can overhear (i.e., a separate room in a pub). There is no pressure to turn up at the very beginning, or even to stay for the whole time if you wish to leave early.

So far munches have taken place in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and Bath, and hopefully more places will be added to this list soon. All munches are organised by members of Tickle Brits for our members (and most involved the eating of chocolate).

In my opinion going to a munch is one of the best ways to start meeting people with the same fetish as yourself: you get the benefit of body language and added security that they are who they say they are (to some extent).
